By Bud L. Ellis
The Minnesota Twins have picked the best time of the season to play their best baseball of the season.
Joe Mauer blasted a home run in the midst of a 4-for-5 night Tuesday, helping propel the Twins to their sixth-consecutive victory in a 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox at Target Field.
The win pushes the Twins to a season-high five-game lead over the White Sox in the AL Central, and a season-best 20 games over .500. At 70-50, the Twins hold the third-best record in the AL, behind AL-East co-leaders New York and Tampa Bay.
Mauer drove in two runs, helping push the Twins back from a 5-3 fifth-inning deficit. His homer was Mauer’s first at Target Field this season.
Michael Cuddyer added three hits for the Twins, who improved to 9-1 in their past 10 games.
