The Minnesota Twins keep on winning at home. On Saturdays, they pulled out an 8-7 win over the Milwaukee Brewers despite blowing a four-run lead in the ninth inning.
Minnesota held a 6-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth, but Ron Mahay and Jon Rauch allowed five runs to give Milwaukee an unlikely lead. But the resilient Twins got a ground-rule double in the bottom of the frame to score Justin Morneau, sending the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th, Jason Kubel’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly gave them the victory.
The Twins tagged Brewers star pitcher Yovani Gallardo for four runs in the first inning, but could get no more off the All-Star. Morneau upped his league-leading batting average to .377 with a 3-for-5 day, and Joe Mauer went 4-for-7. They combined to score five of the team’s eight runs.
Jesse Crain worked a scoreless 12th inning to earn his first win of the season.

The Minnesota Twins received some good news when catcher Joe Mauer was able to return to the lineup.
Mauer played in the team’s Saturday night win against the Baltimore Orioles and again in their victory Sunday.
He was listed as week-to-week by manager Ron Gardenhire because of a sore left heel.
The team was able to exercise plenty of caution with Mauer because of the fabulous job done by the backup catcher.
Mauer is considered by many to be one of the top players in baseball and the Twins cannot afford to lose him for any significant amount of time.

Minnesota Twins star catcher Joe Mauer is listed as week-to-week with a bruised left heel.
The catcher underwent an MRI to determine the extent of the damage, and it showed no structural issues.
Wilson Ramos has replaced Mauer at catcher and has been scorching hot since being inserted into the lineup.
The team wants to be cautious with Mauer’s injury so it doesn’t become a chronic issue, and it’s easy to do so with Ramos hitting the ball so well.
The Twins are hopeful that they will get last year’s American League MVP back in the lineup within the next week or so.

The Minnesota Twins like their new digs, based on looking at their 6-3 record inside brand-new Target Field.
But the Twins played good baseball everywhere in April, and as a result the Twins find themselves on top of the AL Central standings in the first weekend of May.
Minnesota is 15-9 on the season, ½ game ahead of Detroit in the standings, even though the Twins have stumbled just a bit the past week, losing four out of their past six.
Still, it’s been a good start for the Twins in the first season of Target Field. Minnesota beat Boston 5-2 on April 12 in the first regular-season game at the new stadium, and a 6-3 homestand pushed the Twins’ mark to 11-5 on the season.
Two wins in a row at Kansas City gave Minnesota a 13-5 record. Then came the little skid to close the month, Minnesota winning at Cleveland 9-3 to close April at 15-8.
A 5-4 loss on Saturday brought Minnesota to 15-9. After the series finale at Cleveland on Sunday, the Twins open a nine-game homestand Monday against Detroit.
